AUDITIONS FOR HOT SPICE

CLEVELAND Cleveland's newest gay entertainment troupe, Hot Spice, will be holding auditions on Tuesday, June 1st 8:00 p.m. at the Shaker Club. According to Eric Borush, auditions require two numbers, one comedy, one serious, and a costume change from one presentation to the other. There are two openings for performers and one for someone experienced in lighting and sound.

A good singing voice is helpful, but not necessary. All material brought in must be on records and not tapes. Eric stressed that auditions will be held in private and will not be open to the general public. Hot Spice's first show is tentatively planned for July. Hot Spice has also offered a benefit performance for the Gay Community Center sometime in the near future.

CHANGES AT THE BAYOU One of the recent changes at the Bayou Landing, according to Doug Mowrey, the manager of the Bayou and Double "L" Bar, is that there will be no sudden changes. "In the future, Bayou Landing surprises will be only good ones. Should there need to be any changes, the customers will be notified well in advance.

"The Bayou Landing from this point forth will be what it should have been all along, a people's bar, geared to the customer, for the customer, with the customer. Basically, want we customers to feel at home here any time and know what to expect."

In addition to the

operating policies, Mowrey and Discoman Joe Costa have been busy remodeling the upstairs and installing Cleveland's first "Light Sculpture." Both Mowrey and Costa worked on the design and implementation of the new additions. "I've wanted to do this for a long time," said Costa. "When Doug took over, he knew exactly what I meant; Doug is an extremely hard worker."

The first change which the customer will notice is that the atmosphere has been brightened considerably by the addition

of black and white murals painted on several walls. These

murals were designed and pain-

ted to better enhance and reflect the new colors of the light show. The new walls enable Costa to use many more different colored "gels" than was previously possible.

The light show does not stop with the walls and new lights, according to Costa, the chromotechnics are projected onto the dancers themselves. If a person wears pastel colors, s/he become an integral part of the light show.

NEW BAR OPENS IN PAINESVILLE

On Monday, May 10, with one grand opening celebration, what is probably both the newest and oldest gay bar in the Cleveland area, was opened for business. The Tavern at 792 Mentor Ave. (Rt. 20) in Painesville, is the newest because that was the first night open to serve the gay community of Lake County and the Greater Cleveland area. It is probably the oldest because the building was built as an Inn in 1812.

Just 2 or 3 miles from Mentor Headlands, The Tavern operates as a straight restaurant during the day time. Depending on the response, the owner is willing to change the building internally to suite the needs of the gay community. Once things get going, there are plans for serving. breakfast on weekends. Because they operate as a restaurant, The Tavern accepts hoth BankAmericard and Master
